Traveler Surf Club serves surfers, swimmers, and beach-goers who want a comfortable re-entry point from the waters of the Pacific Ocean back to life on land. Located at iconic 1st Point at Surfrider Beach where perfect right-hand point waves peel all day long, Traveler’s mission is to encourage ocean lovers to spend more time doing what they love and to provide a friendly, warm, and inviting space to transition to and from the ocean. We aspire to create a community among ocean-goers of all levels.

The Surf Club includes hot showers, changing rooms, beach lockers, towel service, coffee/tea, WiFi lounge, and surfboard lockers. The perfect home-base for travelers who want to experience the local surf culture and pristine Malibu coastline.

Lessons are tailored to your needs, so let us know if there is anything you'd like to focus on. Lessons meet at Traveler Surf Club in Malibu to get suited up, then spend 15-25 minutes on the beach for safety essentials, surfing etiquette, how to understand tides and why it’s important, paddling and pop-up simulation, and wave and crowd assessment. Spend 1-1.5 hrs. in the water with Julie providing guidance on wave selection, paddling technique, etiquette, feedback, and encouragement.

Julie will be your local surf guide and you’ll surf at one of the best surf spots in the LA area depending on the conditions that day.

Duration: 2 hours includes private instruction out in the water, board rental, and full day use of the surf club. $300/person.

Please note Traveler Surf Club is currently closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

About Surf Instructor, Julie Cox:

As a talented longboarder and California native, Julie Cox loves to travel and share surfing with others. Julie grew up in Agoura Hills in Los Angeles County, not far from the longboarder's paradise of Malibu, and soon became a local at LA county beaches, including Leo Carrillo State Beach aka “Secos”, Surfrider Beach, Zuma, and County Line. As a university student UC Santa Cruz, Julie earned a degree in Environmental Studies in tandem with a pro surfing career. She surfed on the Roxy team and was ranked 5th in the world in 2007, 2008 and 2009. After surfing professionally, she was Director of the California Surf Museum , then worked for other surf brands before starting her own, Traveler Surf Club. Traveler Surf Club & Coastal Outpost now has two locations -- Pacifica, CA and Malibu, CA. Julie also has her own line of surfboards, The Jule Collection , which can be found at Traveler or special ordered through Julie. She has been coaching surfers of all levels since 1998 and looks forward to being your local surf guide.
